15-Year Old Co-op Single Cask No. 1915

Sometimes you have to take a little risk to find your next favourite single malt. Old Pulteney, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, was founded in 1826 but is still foreign to many Scotch lovers. We are huge fans of Old Pulteney’s distinctive salty, briny character that has resulted in it being dubbed “the maritime malt.” Distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2021, this single cask of Old Pulteney is spectacular. Bottled at a cask strength of 54.4%, this dram offers notes of crisp green apple, vanilla, oak spice, toffee, and that signature salty finish. Exclusive to Co-op Wine Spirits Beer, there were only 240 bottles yielded by this American oak cask. Enjoy.
Have you ever wondered what foods would pair best with your favourite whisky? Generally, because whiskies are intensely flavoured and high in alcohol, foods with bold, rich flavours that can stand up to whisky work best. After-dinner foods, like your favourite dessert or a powerful cheese, are great matches for whisky – chocolate is almost always great. Moreover, foods with elevated levels of umami, like smoked fish or grilled meats, tend to compliment the complex layers of flavour that whisky can offer. Having said that, remember that the best pairings are most often a result of trial and error. Do not forget to have fun trying to find that perfect food and whisky match!
Did you know, that with a population of roughly 5.4 million there are more than 20 million barrels of whisky currently aging in warehouses across the country, Scotland has almost four casks of whisky per citizen.
